Vicar Message - September 2017

Dearly beloved in Christ,

Greetings In the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
“Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift” (2Cori: 9:15)

At VBS in a large Parish a visitor noticed that while the candy was being distributed many would take more and hide it in their pockets. Later when no one was around to ask them to share, they would eat the extra candy by themselves.

The same visitor then went to a mission field. He attended a VBS there and the leader was giving out candy. The children here acted the same way. The visitor pointed out to the leader that many kids from the larger Parish did the same. The leader said, “No this was not the same. Yes, these children grab candy and hide it in their pockets, but when they get home they will share it with everyone in the family”. He said these children rarely get candy and so in their excitement they would share it and multiply their joy.

When we receive blessings for God’s hand how do we act?

Paul reminds us and the Church in Corinth that Christians are meant to live with open hands. As God gives to us we are tempted to strengthen our grip on the blessing and not let go. But our hands should be poised to give not grab. The fear that many have is that if they give they will suffer loss. In a purely materialistic sense this may be true. But spiritually, we only gain when we give. God’s providence abounds for the cheerful giver. God who gives abundantly to us will be glorified when in our lives we emulate his graciousness and give for others. When God would freely give his only Son for us, surely we too can give what we can for others.

Grace, generosity and giving are mutually connected. Grace enables us to give that which is utmost in our life. That is not painful but pleasant experience.

Are we ready to give without considering the consequences?

Gracious God help us to love as you are loving, show grace as you are gracious, and give as you are giving.

May God Bless you all.

With Prayers
